"Blueberries"

Just a little anecdote of Jacob being himself: yesterday he and Catherine were playing in the backyard while Greg and I were in the kitchen (watching them play thru the kitchen window.) He runs in to find us and asks us to remove the "blueberry" from his nose. There are berries on the bushes alongside the garage and they are blue in color, but more the size of a small pea and hard. Greg helped him get the berry out by pushing in one nostril and having him blow with the other - gross sorry! So, here is the funny part - the rest of the day continues are normal as it can with two small toddlers. Then later just as I am pulling Catherine out of the bath tub that evening (I've already pulled Jacob out and have him in his jammies) Jacob abruptly turns around as he is headed out the door for stories in Catherine's room and solemnly and wisely advises Catherine: "do not put blueberries in your nose!" (As if she was seriously considering it inside in the bathtub!) : )

Loving on Jacob

Just as a side note: as we were packing up to leave the strawberry patch I already had Catherine partially buckled into her car seat. Jacob was still running lose in the car and all of a sudden Catherine just grabbed him up and just started loving on him! It was so sweet and Jacob as you can tell from the pictures loved it too! My favorites are them kissing!

Visit to the Strawberry Patch

Reasonably close to where we live there is a strawberry patch where you can pick your own strawberries (Froberg's Fruit and Vegetable Farm in Alvin, Texas). We go every year (usually in March) and it is always such a treat. There is something so pleasant about being out in the fresh air in the spring time. This year was especially fun as both children could really participate and Catherine did that and then some! She was like a little "Strawberry Shortcake" picking and eating the strawberries (we called it "sampling") as fast as she could! : ) The evidence was all over her little face. Jacob, on the other hand also liked picking, however, once the buckets were part way filled was much more partial to dumping the bucket out into another empty bucket or just plain onto the ground! He also was quite excellent at making strawberry smoothies in the field, despite repeated reminders that he was trampling the poor berries! We went with my sweet friend April and her youngest of three, Deacon (as seen in the last picture). Afterward we shopped in their open air market and purchased lots of fresh produce for quite cheap along with some fried pies. Then we had a picnic lunch under an OLD tree and swung on the swing set. The day ended with a great view of a train running along the private track right near where we parked which the kids of course loved. Below are pictures of the kids (taken 03/23/10) in the patch; I think my favorite is Catherine test-tasting a berry - a discerning berry critic! : )
